II John 6
I Timothy 4: 12
Romans 12: 4-5
Hebrews 11: 6
These core values aren’t just what we want others to see in us, but these values are what God expects us to show each day of our lives.
In 2 John 6 we read, “And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you are to walk in it.” From the very beginning, and throughout every page of the Bible, we are instructed to walk according to God’s commands. In Revelation 22:18 we are told, “I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book”. We show our love to God by being biblically sound. From the very beginning, and to our end, we are to abide in His word.
I Timothy 4:12 says, “Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.” Act in a way that others will imitate. If we are biblically sound, then we will be a people pleasing to God. If our actions are pleasing to Him, then they are the actions that need to be shown to all the world. We have found the way, the truth, and the life in Jesus Christ, so let us also be strong in love, speech, faith, and purity so others can come to find the way and join alongside us.
Romans 12: 4-5 tells us, “For just as we have many parts in one body and all the body’s parts do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually parts of one another.” Life is tough, and we each have daily struggles, but God never intended for us to go alone. He is always with us, but he has also given us an amazing gift. That gift is family, the church! Families are where we can learn to feel love and discover how to love others. Families are central to God’s plan for his children, and it is a fundamental building block of strong communities. The ten commandments had areas that spoke to maintaining family. God did not only save Noah, and we read in Hebrews 11: 7, we see that Noah, “in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household.” Matthew 12:46-50, Jesus says, “Behold: My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother, and sister, and mother.”
In Hebrews 11:6, it is very clear that we must be children of faith. “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for the one who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He proves to be One who rewards those who seek Him.” We cannot please our Father without faith. Faith is having a firm confidence and trust in God and that He will do as He has promised. Chapter 11 of Hebrews also does an incredible job of giving us examples of several who came before us that exemplified living by faith. Verse 4, “By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain.” In verse 5, “By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death.” Abraham and Sarah lived by faith. Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and many others are heroes of faith. All of these lived their lives with a deep and powerful trust in the Lord. We see it in the past, and we know that for today, and if we are blessed with tomorrow, the only way to live and give honor to our Father is by living our lives in faith. Romans 1:17. “For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.”
